About Me

I started this blog as a way of building an online community of current and past Ivy Tech paralegal students, as well as letting people interested in our program know what we're up to. This blog is not sponsored by Ivy Tech. No way, no how.

My name is Linda Kampe, and I'm the program chair of Paralegal Studies in Lafayette, Indiana. My office is in Ivy Hall 1166. Stop by and chat. For best results, make an appointment, so I know to expect you. And if you bring your own cup, I'll make you tea. Because hey, we're not animals.

More Opportunities for Involvement

... and if you're in one of my classes, for involvement points.

But whether you're in my class or not, there are plenty of worthwhile things to do coming up:

September 9--Blood Drive
Ivy Tech is sponsoring a blood drive on campus on Wednesday, September 9. You can sign up for an appointment at the Student Life office, but you can also just drop in. Free, although obviously you do have to give blood. Or at least, try. (10 on-campus points) (No extra points for passing out, no points deducted for being unable to complete your donation.)

September 15--"The Amish Project"
Just a reminder--the Lafayette Civic Theatre is presenting a staged reading of the play "The Amish Project," which depicts a community dealing with a schoolhouse shooting. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and is a "Pay What You Can" event ... so, arguably, free. (10-20 off-campus points)

September 16--Arne Duncan
As mentioned in an earlier post, US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will be speaking at Purdue at 2:30 on Wednesday, September 16.  Free. (10-20 off-campus points)

October 13--YWCA Domestic Violence Luncheon
On Tuesday, October 13, the YWCA is hosting a Domestic Violence Luncheon as part of its luncheon series. The speaker will be Kerry Bloomquist, an IU Law Professor and the attorney for the Indiana Coalition against Domestic Violence. Ms. Bloomquist will be speaking about the history of domestic violence laws in Indiana. The lunch and presentation run from 11:30 - 1:00 p.m. Cost: $12 per person. (10-20 off-campus points, unless you are going as part of the Family Law class field trip.)

Post a Comment

Feel free to comment--but all comments will be reviewed by me before they get posted. I will not post anything scurrilous about Ivy Tech students, faculty, or staff, or about members of the local community. Truth is not a defense. This just isn't going to be that kind of blog.
