What is the MLK
Jr. Legacy Project?
The
MLK Jr. Legacy Project is an ARTivism exhibition to honor the legacy of Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. ARTivism combines “art” and “activism” created to
increase social, environmental, and technical awareness in their community
through art. All enrolled Ivy Tech students are invited to participate.
Participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt. Submissions will be juried
and selected pieces will be included in a traveling exhibition and displayed at
various Ivy Tech Community College campuses in January and February, 2017.
Scholarships will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place Best in Show.
Submissions
should answer the driving question: How do I interpret social change in my
community with the theme of “Moving Forward” in the spirit of Martin Luther
King Jr.?
Project
Objectives:
§ To encourage
students to engage in conversation and interpretations of how Dr. King’s legacy
can influence our actions today
§ To inspire
students to impact our community by embracing and living Dr. King’s dream
§ To bring focus and
attention to the relationships and events that illustrate how people are
bringing unity to their world
§ To inspire
students to use visual arts, digital media, and writing as active forms of
creative expression
Due Date:
All
work must be submitted by Noon on November 18, 2016, to your Regional Student
Life Office.

Place - $400.00
2nd
Place - $300.00
3rd
Place - $200.00
Categories:
Submissions must
meet the following media and technical requirements:
§ Each student may
submit up to two entries
§ Creative writing: includes short
stories, historical research/writing, poetry, songwriting (recordings
encouraged), fiction, non-fiction (1,000 word maximum)
§ 2D/Visual Arts: includes
painting, drawing, posters/graphic design, digital art, illustration,
photography
o
Mixed
media, fabric, textile design, book arts, printmaking accepted
§ 3D Art: includes
sculpture in clay, metal, wood or functional art/ceramics
o
3D
art and sculpture limited to 14w, 18h, 14d and must have a shipping container
accompany the entry.
§ Audio/Video: includes
songwriting, storytelling, video, music recordings
o
Audio/video
are encourage to be two to five minutes in length
§ Interactive/Digital
Design:
includes animation, web design, 2D illustration, 3D illustration
o
Animations
are encourage to be one to two minutes in length
Technical
Criteria:
§ Writings must be
free of typographical errors and printed on heavy weight paper.
§ Any form of
plagiarism will disqualify an entry. Quotes and other references should include
citations.
§ Each entry must
have an entry form attached to the back of the piece.
§ No late
applications or entries accepted.
